The One Becomes Toronto’s Tallest Building at Yonge and Bloor Intersection

The One has officially claimed the title of the tallest building at Toronto’s iconic Yonge and Bloor intersection, surpassing the height of One Bloor East at 257 meters with its 76 stories. As the structure moves past the 75th level and advances toward its fourth mechanical section, The One has cemented its position as the sixth tallest skyscraper in Toronto.

Construction of this supertall skyscraper officially began in 2017, with the building emerging above ground in the fall of 2020. Since then, it has become one of Toronto’s most anticipated and talked-about developments. Designed by the UK-based architectural firm Foster+Partners, The One is redefining Toronto’s skyline with its groundbreaking design and cutting-edge construction techniques.

A major feature of the building is its expansive, column-free ground floor, which boasts soaring 41-foot ceilings and floor-to-ceiling glass panels, offering an unparalleled sense of space. This base is planned to host a flagship retail tenant in the near future, further enhancing its significance as a retail and commercial destination.

Supporting the weight of the tower are eight mega-columns that run the full height of the structure, strategically placed around the perimeter. These columns, visible from the outside, are reinforced by V-shaped steel hangers that stabilize the tower’s corners, contributing to its unique aesthetic and structural integrity.

One of the most innovative elements of The One is its Tuned Mass Damper (TMD), which will be installed near the top of the building. This system acts as a counterweight to minimize wind-induced movements, ensuring a smooth and comfortable experience for those on the upper floors.

The building’s striking bronze and champagne-tinted cladding, which now extends past the second mechanical level, adds to its distinct appearance, making it a standout in Toronto’s skyline.

Despite facing numerous challenges during construction, The One has continued its rapid ascent and is approaching its projected height of 308 meters across 85 stories. If constructed to its approved height of 91 stories, it could reach 328 meters, becoming Canada’s first-ever supertall skyscraper.
