AC Hotel Detroit at the Bonstelle Set to Open in January 2025 with Modern Amenities and Historic Theater Connection

The AC Hotel Detroit at the Bonstelle is set to open its doors in January 2025, marking the completion of the latest addition to the city’s hospitality scene. The new 10-story hotel offers 154 guest rooms, a fitness center, versatile meeting spaces, and a welcoming lounge area on the ground floor. A unique conservatory with a bar connects the hotel to the historic Bonstelle Theatre, which is currently undergoing restoration and will serve as an event venue starting in the spring of 2025.

During a preview event on Wednesday evening, we had the chance to tour the property with David Di Rita of the Roxbury Group.

Originally founded in Madrid, the AC Hotel brand features a minimalist, warm design style. The Conservatory bar will serve a selection of tapas, cocktails, wine, and beer, and a rooftop bar is planned for later in 2025. The ground-floor lounge next to the lobby offers a comfortable environment with seating, a fireplace, and a smaller bar. It is also available for smaller private events. The guest rooms are spacious, offering large windows with sweeping views of the city.

The Bonstelle Theatre, once it reopens, will host live performances and private events. It is directly linked to the hotel through the Conservatory space.

The AC Hotel Detroit is a joint project between the Roxbury Group and Peachtree Group, with Azul Hospitality overseeing hotel management. Stantec led the design efforts, Patrick Thompson Design handled the interior design, and Sachse Construction managed the construction process. The Roxbury Group is well-known for their successful developments, including the Element Hotel at the Metropolitan Building and the David Whitney Building.

Originally constructed in 1903, the Bonstelle Theatre was designed by Albert Kahn as the Temple Beth El synagogue. In 1925, it was redesigned by theater architect C. Howard Crane and converted into a theater and movie house. Wayne State University acquired the building in 1951, and it was decommissioned in 2018. Construction on the AC Hotel began in 2023.

Located at the corner of Eliot Street and Woodward Avenue in Brush Park, the hotel is in close proximity to major venues such as Little Caesars Arena and Comerica Park.
