From Passion to Purpose: Liyia’s Journey as a Fearless Music Creator

For Liyia, music has always been more than a hobby—it’s been a calling, a force that’s guided her from childhood into her life’s purpose. Growing up, she immersed herself in the sounds of legendary artists, developing a love for music that grew deeper with each passing year. By the time she was a teenager, her connection to music had become undeniable, inspiring her to write songs as a way of expressing her emotions and experiences.

But it wasn’t until later in life that the bigger picture came into focus. “I started having clear revelations about my music,” Liyia shares. “It wasn’t just about creating songs—it became about impacting lives and spreading hope.”

This purpose gave her music a distinct edge, blending genres like hip-hop, Afrobeat, and amapiano to create a sound that’s uniquely hers. Influenced by a wide range of artists—from R&B, hip-hop, and rap icons like Eve, DMX, Usher, Aaliyah, Tupac, Busta Rhymes, and Missy Elliott to faith-driven musicians like Lecrae, Forrest Frank, Hulvey, TobyMac, and Ada Ehi—Liyia’s music reflects a beautifully diverse tapestry of inspiration.

Her song Victory stands as a testament to both her faith and resilience. “That song is so close to my heart,” Liyia explains. “I wrote and recorded it a few months after giving birth to my first child—a miracle in every sense of the word.” During her pregnancy, doctors told her a natural delivery wasn’t possible, and a cesarean section would be required. But when the doctors performed the procedure, they discovered a fibroid inside her womb—a condition that could have endangered her baby.

“God’s protection was undeniable,” Liyia says. “He gave me Psalm 3:8 during my pregnancy: ‘Victory comes from the Lord. May your blessing rest on your people.’ That scripture carried me through, and it became the foundation of the song.”

Like many artists, Liyia has faced challenges along the way. “One of the hardest parts was finding the resources to sponsor my music,” she admits. “And being married while pursuing my dreams meant learning to balance both worlds. But God has been so faithful. He’s provided for my music and blessed me with an amazing husband who supports me every step of the way.”

Another challenge has been breaking down barriers within certain spaces. “Some churches still aren’t fully comfortable with rap music,” she says. “But by God’s grace, I’ve been able to bring my music into places where it can make an impact.”

Liyia’s creative process is deeply spiritual, starting with prayer. “I always ask for God’s guidance before creating,” she explains. “Then I connect with my producer. Sometimes I’ll go in with a song I’ve already written, and other times, I let the producer surprise me with a beat. I allow the Spirit to lead me, and before I know it, a new song is born.”

Through her music, Liyia hopes listeners take away a powerful message: “Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. His love is unconditional, and with Him, all things are possible. I want people to feel encouraged and know they should never give up on their dreams.”

Looking ahead, Liyia is gearing up for an exciting year. In January 2025, she’s set to release a brand-new single, Goal, a track she describes as energetic and uplifting. “There are also some incredible collaborations on the horizon,” she says, her excitement palpable.

For Liyia, music is more than a career—it’s her ministry, her testimony, and her way of leaving a legacy. With every lyric, beat, and performance, she’s living proof that faith and determination can turn dreams into reality. Stay connected with her at @liyiamusic on Instagram.
