Heartthrob and musically talented, Marcel Mendoza is serenading music lovers with his infused reggaeton and R&B blend. Inspired by a wide range of musical influences, Mendoza has always been curious about blending different genres and has somehow seamlessly brought these two genres together effortlessly. Understanding that in order to stand out as an artist, Mendoza has taken risks and created a unique sound by trusting his voice, staying true to his influences, and being authentic – both as an artist and person.
His latest single, “MOOD” showcases a blend of Chilean and Puerto Rican reggaeton influences. Immersing himself in reggaeton tunes from Chile, particularly Cris MJ and Standly, his initial thought was to make a song with a Chilean vibe. Discovering a beat from Chilean producer, Prod. Keif, instinctively he started creating the melody. Describing the experience as an “atmospheric vibe”, the melody was inspired and his flowy falsetto followed which made him feel like he was almost floating in the sky.
With previous hits like, “El Sueno” and “Apretadita”, which made a huge impact on the charts, “MOOD” is the first song in his collection that is a true reggaeton track. Singing in falsetto, showcases more of his vocal range and an ability to demonstrate a different side of his voice. This track highlights his growth as an artist and his willingness to explore new sounds.
Having a background in both music and acting, Mendoza explains that the two expressions of art go hand-in-hand. His approach to creativity is like telling a story, much like connecting with a script or a character in acting. His secret formula is all about finding that emotional connection. “MOOD” has been praised for pushing genre boundaries and this innovation will not only evolve but influence the future of Urbano Latino music. Having the desire to be the type of artist who creates a new wave, maybe even a sub-genre, Mendoza believes he could open up a path for new groundbreaking music. Still learning and discovering new things about himself, he could be fortunate enough to make a change in the Urbano Latina scene and considers accomplishing that goal a huge honor.
Embracing collaboration over competition, Mendoza has yet to have any features but understands that the possibilities are endless.Emulation has worked for many with the gift of artistic expression and it’s no different for Mendoza. With a poster on his wall as inspiration, one of his goals is to create with Bad Bunny and ROSALIA. Describing ROSALIA as having a unique gift as a musician and performer, Mendoza is also influenced by other artists like Feid, Rauw Alejandro and Jhay Cortez and would love a feature or be featured with artists of this caliber.essage is to live authentically. Don’t let what others think hold you back—life’s too short to play it safe. Just go for it and live the life you want.
Like many new and young artists, social media has been a major advantage for exposure. Making appearances on platforms like CBS News, Mendoza has been able to connect with fans all over the world. Notably an instant role model, his message to anyone is “to live your life without worrying too much about what others think.” He also believes that no one should take things too seriously because you only have one life to live-so make it count.
As an artist, there are challenges of remaining authentic in personality and sound while also experimenting with new musical styles. When creating music with new genres or beats, Mendoza reminds himself to get comfortable being uncomfortable. It’s the only way to master a sound and find his place within it. If he doesn’t take risks, all of his songs would sound the same. Believing that every part of life, including art, has multiple facets, this is something he has learned to apply to his music.
Over the next few years and for future projects, Mendoza is already ahead of the game. Soon to drop a Brazilian funk song and another Jersey club track, he is also experimenting with Bachata. As someone who goes with the flow, this talent urges fans to be patient and understand that this is only the beginning. Hoping his music reflects his evolution not only as a person but also as an artist, he believes the future brings the unknown but there’s a lot more to come.
Gracing the cover of MEKKA for Hispanic Heritage Month, Mendoza is humbled by this honor. “I love Hispanic Heritage Month because it’s such a vibrant celebration of the diverse cultures that make up Latin America and Spanish-speaking countries around the world. It’s a time where we come together, united in our heritage, to enjoy the music, food, and traditions that define our communities. It’s also the perfect time to go out, have fun, and vibe to your favorite canciones de reggaeton, salsa, bachata , corridos whatever it may be but haha!”
Working on several new songs, Mendoza is anxious to keep the momentum going with quicker rollouts. Before the end of the year, fans can definitely expect more songs. Not wanting to give too much away because he likes to project the element of surprise, Mendoza states, “if you loved MOOD, I’ve got something special for all my perreo lovers.”
