The National Puerto Rican Day Parade (NPRDP) has revealed its theme for the 2025 celebration: “Plantando Bandera.” This evocative phrase, meaning “planting the flag,” encapsulates the Puerto Rican community’s deep-seated pride in their presence, their wide-ranging societal contributions, and their unwavering commitment to preserving and honoring their rich cultural heritage and traditions.
The visual representation of this theme features two powerful cultural symbols: the iconic Puerto Rican flag overlaid on a ceiba tree, with the tree’s roots extending across a global map. This imagery effectively conveys how Puerto Rican culture, identity, and influence are firmly established in contemporary society, reaching and impacting communities worldwide. It also underscores the unifying power of the Puerto Rican flag, connecting all members of the diaspora, both on the island and across the globe.
For the second consecutive year, the artwork for the parade’s theme has been created by Jorge Rafael Calderón, a Puerto Rican native with nearly three decades of experience as a versatile artist, art director, illustrator, graphic designer, actor, musician, and advertising creative. His diverse artistic portfolio can be explored at https://jorgerafaelcalderon.com/.
In conjunction with the theme announcement, the official NPRDP 2025 merchandise collection has launched at TeeRico by Lin-Manuel Miranda. This collaboration marks another year of partnership, offering a range of items celebrating the “Plantando Bandera” theme.
The official collection, available now at https://www.teerico.com/collections/puerto-rican-day-parade, includes T-shirts, hoodies, and tank tops in various colors – Red, White, Blue, Black, and Yellow – as well as color prints of the theme artwork, limited-edition art prints, and more.
Importantly, proceeds from all merchandise sales directly benefit the NPRDP Scholarship Fund, supporting the educational aspirations of the next generation of Puerto Rican leaders. This initiative allows individuals to express their cultural pride while contributing to the future success of the community.
