As I sit here and reflect on the NFL Draft, I can’t help but shake my head at some of the moments we witnessed. First, congratulations to every player who heard their name called, what an incredible achievement and a moment you’ll never forget.
Let’s clear the air: the NFL is a billion dollar business, and no one, no matter how talented is bigger than the shield. The league will humble you quickly if you forget that.
One of the major storylines this year is the fall of the quarterback many considered the second-best in college football. How it happened and why it happened is up for debate, but what we do know is it happened. We’ve seen this before: first-round talent slipping due to questions about attitude, coaching history, or locker room concerns. It’s not new.
But is the uproar louder this time because it’s the son of an icon? Some people don’t even follow college football closely are they only reacting based on what’s trending on social media or what the media pushes?
We need to stop selectively choosing which battles to fight. I’ll never take away from any player’s greatness, but the NFL will always protect its brand first.
That said, in all the noise, one incredible story is being overlooked: the first pick in the draft, Cam Ward. This young man became the first zero-star recruit to go number one overall. That’s historic. Cam Ward has proven that greatness isn’t defined by stars or hype, it’s about heart, perseverance, and performance. Even when no one believed in him, he believed in himself, and now the world sees it too.
